Activity 1 - PERCEPTION

Perception is the way in which something is regarded, understood, or interpreted.

The first activity of Think Lab was based on perception. It helped us a lot to understand and enhance our creativity. It even helped us to looked at things from a different point of view.

INTRODUCTION

In intro of THINK LAB we were shown a Pentagon figure.

And we were asked to come up with numerous associations that we can connect with shape. There are some ideas we came up with

HUT

DOG HOUSE

SIGN BOARD

POCKET SQUARE

PENCIL TIP

Warm up activity

In warmup we were divided into groups of 4. My team mates were IKPREET, KHUSHI-G ,KHUSHI A

At first , we were introduced about how think lab works and what all materials were required for the whole day. Later we were divided into groups consisting of 4-5 members.

Whole day we all were interacting and got to know each other by attempting fun activities at the same time.

In the first warm up activity, we got the figure STAR and now we had to find things that resembles the figure from our day to day life.

So we came up with several things by discussing with each other like:

-leaf

-brouche

-jellyfish

- star made up of 5 TRIANGLES and 1 HEXAGON

Main activity

We all continued working in groups. But this time there was change in figure. We got letter T. So as soon as possible we got back to our team and started a meeting. out of anything, it was really fun.

Most of the times, we were joking around . we were all so excited to see each other that we lost the track of time and hurried up in the end. ok, so coming back to the point, we all have to make at least 5 things that resembles T.

So first, we came up with things that resembles T from our day to day life and then divided them up so everyone could draw at least 5 ideas.

TEAMWORK and TIME MANAGEMENT were the two things whose importance now we know at its best. the things i drew were a mop, candles stand, paper clip, spray, umbrella.

Later discussion was done on general, it was really an interactive session . looking forward to more such sessions;)

GROUP ACHIEVEMENTS.

- this activity helped to increase the interactions among the batch-mates.

-really helped to increase our creativity.

GROUP STRUGGLES

-Time management was the main struggle. but now we know how to manage that too. guess will do better next time;)

-another struggle was basic ideas and finding objects that resembles T.

WHAT COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY?

- we all were so busy thinking about ideas that we forgot the main thing the faculty asked us to do " to add geometry".

- we could have added pictures resembling T.

MAIN LEARNING

-TIME MANAGEMENT.

- IMP OF TEAMWORK

LEARNING MANTRA.

Always listen to your faculty. :P

ACTIVITY 2 -

SCALE AND CONTEXT

The second activity of think lab was based on SCALE AND CONTEXT.

SCALE-

referred to as size or extent of something.

CONTEXT-

The circumstances that

form the setting for a statement or idea & in terms of which it can be fully understood.

We started the day, with the introduction of the activity given by sir and ma'am.

WARM UP ACTIVITY.

Warm up activity helped us to look at things in a significant manner.

The object of the day was cutter.

we again got divided into several groups of 4-5 members. and were asked to look at the objects from 10 different angle and draw the same .

MAIN ACTIVITY.

In the main activity, we continued working in groups. we were supposed to draw our conceived objects (i.e. cutter) with respect to its scale & use.

I chose making a swing and a road divider.

it was really fun interacting with my peers. they all were really amazing.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Now I am able to look at things closely and in a different manner from the way I used to do. It was really fun doing this activity. we thought and resembled things with the things we would have never thought of.

STRUGGLES

At first it was difficult to think of resemblance with cutter. But as soon as we started looking at things in a different way it was fun.

I would like to address my struggles by looking at them in a positive way and fighting for a way out rather than running from it.

LEARNING MANTRA

TEAMWORK IS AS IMP AS TIME MANAGEMENT.

3) STAKEHOLDER MAPPING.

This activity was to observe, discuss and discover various perspectives to a given context and to understand the participants with respect to a setting and their diverse interests at hand.

Unlike before, at first we weren't divided into groups for warm up activity rather we all participated together as a group.

STAKEHOLDER- A group or organization that has interest in a company and can affect or be affected by the business of the company.

At first we had to list the people given in the picture. The direct participants involved here are street vendors, drivers and co -passengers. also it is indirectly affected by this is traffic police, other drivers, other hawkers and pedestrians. Then on national level state government, fabric suppliers, fuel supplier etc.

MAIN ACTIVITY

We were divided into groups. of 4-5 members. this time my members were akshaya, nirvarthi and nanki. they were all really nice;). We worked together and came up with maximum stakeholders.

At first we were given this picture and were asked to make a stakeholder map accordingly and then after doing so we had to take one stakeholder given in the picture and had to draw the perspective through his/her eye. 2nd image is what i drew through the perspective of the auto driver.

I drew him and added the like that was really obvious about taking 2 more shifts. because we are always in a hurry.

GROUP ACHIEVEMENTS AND STRUGGLES.

We worked together and got together easily . it was really fun we even didnt find much struggles . the only problem we faced was at the starting making stakeholder but later we found a way for that too.

REFLECTION

The whole day was FUN, we not only interacted well but also learnt so many things. we did lots of brainstorming. himanshi mam made us understand the importance of this activity for future use and how we could be a better designers .Most importantly it helped to improve our creativity and also to take it to another level.

LEARNING MANTRA: discussion is exchange of knowledge

4) EXPRESSIVE TYPOGRAPHY

The fourth activity of Thinklab was regarding EXPRESSIVE TYPOGRAPHY.

The day started with the introduction of the activity that was about to be done . at first we didn't know anything about the expressive typography . but sooner sir and mam explained it to us pretty well. they even showed us examples regarding the same.

EXPRESSIVE TYPOGRAPHY : An art form where text is highly visual; actually, type becomes an image. Letters are not just abstract notions, carriers of meaning; they are also real, physical shapes.

WARM UP ACTIVITY

As usual we all were divided into several groups consisting of 4 members in one . we were all given several work for each group there were 2 words from which each member had to do at least two expressive typographies from one word.

My team members were Lavya Akshya and Khushi, and luckily they were all sweet and amazing and really fun to work with. They gave me amazing ideas/suggestions and helped to modify the things and make it even better.

We got - Deadline and Stable.

Me and Khushi took the word deadline and came up with four ideas which we divided into two for each. i made these.

After this it was time for the main activity .

MAIN ACTIVITY

This time we were working individually but by being in groups.

we had pick out a emotion or any word and paragraph and convert in into a meaningful typography.

Basically we had to create a typography narrative on 6x6 inches sheet. and express the theme according to the paragraph we had taken. we got 60 min to complete so.

I took the word ANXIOUS. and took this paragraph.

PERHAPS THIS IS WHAT THIS

IS WHAT THIS SEASON IS ALL ABOUT .

TRUSTING IN THE UNKNOWNS , FINDING GOLD IN THE LITTLE THINGS, TRADING FEAR OF WHAT'S UNCERTAIN FOR FREEDOM TO THRIVE WITHIN IT.

and drew this->

Also my teammates also helped me alot to come up with all this.

DISCUSSION

After completing with the activity it was time for discussion about what we all did so far. And trust me it was the best . everyone was giving each other suggestions about how can we improvise our work and how can we actually make it better. thanks to everyone...

Today we even did voting by putting the sticker on one of ours peers work whose work we liked the most.

To be honest it helped to look at things in more distinct way and from someone else point of view. the one I loved the most was of ADHIRA NAIR's work .

She added her own self written poem and it was seriously very nice also her illustration made so much sense with the theme.

REFLECTION

Each and every person made such an amazing illustrated typographies.it was amazing session.

We all interacted and understood the importance of typographies and how can the same help us .

LEARNING MANTRA:

FINDING NEW GATES LEAD TO NEW DESTINATION.

activity 5

CHALLENGING ASSUMPTIONS.

Today's activity was very interesting. as per today there was no warm up but we were given brief about what to do and how to do.

BRIEFING :

We were showed this picture of tea cup and were asked what all assumption we could come up with . At first were were all confused what to say but soon we got all the possible ideas like its hot, has sugar , chai+sutta, taste better on rainy days.

Later we discussed about chaayos like how a couple 10 years back had an idea to sell chai in a shop rather than a stall or anywhere else, they instead of a cup decided “kulhad” and “paper” as their packaging which attracted tons of customers , the idea was so unique and it was totally different from assumptions people had. people started finding it more hygienic rather than the tea stalls and now they have their outlets all around.

MAIN ACTIVITY.

As always we were divided into several groups consisting 4-5 members. this time my members were adrisha , khushi and arushi. they all were really nice and i seriously enjoyed doing this activity with them.

We were given a specific food item and was supposed to represent the

following:

- Assumptions and challenges of that food product

-Brand/logo name and design

- Tagline

- Poster

-3-D model

The item assigned to us was paratha. At first we came up with the mindamap i.e given below.

The main problem we find with the parathas are that they are too oily making our hands dirty and making it difficult for us to eat while working too so , we tried to overcome the same challenge and serve them in a way that people can have it even when they are working and there hands or anything wont get dirty.

Let me introduce the special ' PARATHAWAY' in a punjabi style which is hot and spicy, multilayered.

We made this poster and came up with ' let your taste buds tingle with delight' this tagline.

We took the inspiration from tacos and It is completely different from a usual paratha because firstly, the outer layer of the paratha is a bit hard shell, U-shaped version. Secondly, it has 3 different layers of stuffing. Lastly, since it is a bit soft, we planned to serve it with a knife and fork so that anyone can work while eating a paratha.

This is the 3D model we made:

We have used a corrugated sheet as our outer covering because it slightly resembles the color of a paratha. Along with that, it is not only strong but also easily foldable. We also used different types of paper for making the stuffing.

GROUP ACHIEVEMENT

DISCUSSION:

we devoted at least 30 mins just for discussion. It was very much helpful as it helped us to gain many ideas. We were able to modify them and select the most appropriate ideas.

DISTRIBUTION OF WORK

In the first few minutes of the activity, we divided our work according to our skills and preferences. Because of this, we were able to manage the time and work effectively.

REFLECTION

Today, we got an insight of working like a group of designers within a deadline. We had to plan and manage our time ourselves. I learnt the importance of group management. From the beginning of this project, we divided our work systematically.

Also we tried to use before hand activities in this one .ma'am also shared some of the skills that as a designer we should always work upon. Overall, it was a great experience and learning day for me. we even understood that sometimes it good to leave an idea to come up with a better one.

LEARNING MANTRA:

BRAINSTORMING IDEAS CAN HELP CRETING NEW THINGS.

ACTIVITY 6

(New Possibilities)

For Activity 6 we had to think of these new possibilities. There was no warm up activity and we jumped to the Main Activity straight. I was accompanied by VANSHIKA , SIMARJEET AND SRISHTI.

Our theme was 'If Humans Had tails '.

We made mind map and listed out problems and changes that humans had tails. And start working according to that.

if we had a tail we would probably style them as given below:

these are the possibilities for :IF HUMANS HAD TAILS:

we got these ideas and my peers/ group mates illustrated them through their point of view.

as you can see:

In the first image, which is drew by vanshika, she has beautifully styled the tail as a parandi and showed the possibility of beautifying the tails.

like that in the next one srishti , ahas showed like how we color our hair w could also color the tails like we want . similarly, in the next image drew by srishti the representations of chair would also change like we would have space through which our tails could pass.

In the images drew by simarjeet , as shown how our fashion changes when we get a tail is like we would probably have a whole in our pants through which tails pass through comfortably. the next image shows , we can use the tails in many ways it could be our so called the 'coffee holder" our bags holder'. it would probably also used as maintaining social distance.

REFLECTION

This activity was truly amazing and also took us to a fantasy world .

This time we worked together and it was fun interacting with the A2 section as well. now, I have seen improvement in myself. There were no struggles as n today

Learning mantra: Be patient and understanding.

THINKING TOOLS pt2.

( act8)

This activity is a continuation of the previous activity. There was no Warm-up , we started with the main activity which was to apply the tools on object of our choice. Today we learnt two more tools: the Circle of opportunity and Scamper.

Main Activity

Introduction:

Circle of opportunity is combining two attributes and creating a new product.

Scamper is a tool which helps us to modify existing product or create a new product.

SCAMPER stands for :

S- substitute - Replacing a few parts of the product

C- combine- Combining two or more parts of a product.

A- adapt- Adjust to new use.

M- modify/magnify- Magnify our idea.

P- put to another use- Put the product to another use.

E- eliminate- eliminating a part of a product.

R- reverse/rearrange- rearrange the original product to create something new.

I worked on first. To use the circle of opportunity first we list out 12 attributes related to the object. And after that the second step is to choose two or more attributes by rolling a dice. We didn't have a dice so we gave each other two random numbers.

My teammates were: RUBIN, SEHAJ, HARMEET & ADRISHA.

even though adrisha couldn't work because of her finger injury but she helped me alot.

i took pizza for scamper .

and a pen for circle of opportunity.

REFLECTION

Today we started our day with something really fun. Our tutors had sent us a mail the previous day with an instruction of dressing up properly and turning on the cameras. So we all dressed in white shirts and surprised our tutors by doing M to the B. Our tutors were very happy.

This activity taught me two new tools. I decided to do circle of opportunity first and I was able to figure out all 12 attributes easily. I work on illustrator for the first time for our think lab and I think, I achieve my outcome very well. After that I drew out ideas as possible with Scamper. I found SCAMPER as a great tool and found many ideas.

My group members were very good and we really helped each other out whenever we felt stuck. And I was able to manage my time.

Learning mantra: Applying tools can give you better outcome.

ACTIVITY 9

6 THINKING HATS

INTRODUCTION

Our day started with introduction of great British physician, psychologist, author, inventor, philosopher and consultant- Edward de bono and about his book SIX THINKING HATS.

Six thinking hats, their representation and roles:

WARM UP ACTIVITY

We were divided in groups and given one hat out of six and we had to research about that hat, make a poster and represent in front of class. The color of our hat was WHITE HAT.

WHITE HAT is all about facts and information.

my teammates were

Nanki singh, Vanshika Maggo, Ritika Agrawal & Sneha Arora.

When every group explained about their hats we were given main activity of day in which we were given one object and had to use all hats and at the end make new improved product.

From mystery box our group got online food delivery.

through all these we got :

learning mantra: discussions can help evolving ideas.

FINAL REFLECTION

According to me,

Each and every activity is much more than brainstorming ideas. It not only help us to think creatively but also provides new way of learning and applying of techniques.

the major goal of think lab is to know how to work with a group of people with different thinking process.

Every person we its own way of thinking and combing multiple ideas can lead to several creative ideas.

Going through the day of first session to the last, I can totally see my growth in observing things , creating new ideas, brainstorming , and presenting the ideas.

I have even used many of the things in my own project and learning from other project in this. It has not only developed my creative skills but also how I look and analyze things.

Accepting others point of view has been the major learning of mine.

Activities like typography, thinking tools pt 2 and 6 thinking hats has been my favorite till now. Among these also I like TYPOGRAPHY the most. I really liked the idea of showing the emotions through writings. It was really fascinating how one word can show whole emotion and change the whole perspective . It also very much attention seeking for the readers.

The best part of think lab was that it helped us in interacting with our peers . We all realized that not every idea we come up with is great but it can lead to a great idea.

During these sessions whenever we felt stuck with the help of peers we could always come up with something really exciting and new.

Overall my journey of think lab of really great and filled with truckloads of new learnings. also in the end I want to say the journey we carry reaching to a final outcome is more important than the final outcome itself.
