This is a 3 week long project in which we have to work with a partner.
So my partner is KHUSHI AHUJA.
My OBJECT - EYELINER.
Me and my partner came to a conclusion of choosing this object because of its variety in every context weather it be the color, size , shape or all over design.
I am exited about the chosen object .
EYELINER is the only cosmetic product I prefer above all. It helps to draw attention towards the eyes and even enhance the look.
It provides definition to the eyes and make it look attractive.
DESCRIPTION OF THE OBJECT.
EYELINER, is basically a type of cosmetic product used to make your eyes look more enhanced and attractive. It comes in various sizes , shapes and forms. It is drawn above the eye lashes or even below.
FORMS-
Liquid , PENCIL , gel , metallic , etc.
VARIETY OF DIFFERENT OF COLORS.
Blue, green, black are the most popular among youngsters. Even white color is becoming very popular now a days.
It creates a very precise look on the eye.
MIRO MAP -

Day1
The day was started with whole introduction about term2 .
Starting with the journey of the object, the first task of the day given was to use the think lab activity i.e. SLICE AND DICE , which is to be done on the given object.
Me and khushi chose the object and looked into all its attributes. It was basically about how it looked to us.

The second was about identifying the available varieties.
Referring to the Slice and Dice attributes listing chart, help to identify the available variety of the object.

Task 2 | Stakeholder Mapping
A stakeholder is anybody who can affect or is affected by an object, organization , strategy or project. Stakeholders are those people, groups, or individuals who have either the power to affect, or are affected by the endeavor you're engaged with.
Using the learnings from stakeholder mapping activity in Think Lab last semester, we made an engaging Visual Organizer to show the various stakeholders linked to the eyeliner.
Using this tool, we listed down what all possible stakeholders that can be distinguished on the basis of direct and indirect.
Firstly, we brainstormed the ideas, related to the same.

Later, we made the visual organizer.

Its relations:

DAY 2/3
Task3 (EVOLUTION OF THE OBJECT)
Today , the task were all about the history related to the product .
Where it came from , How was it made and what not.
We were basically asked to make the timeline of the object evolution .
Eyeliner in the ancient times was called as kohl and basically was evolving from generations to generations from no container to different kinds of containers.
Here's the mind map of the timeline of eyeliner evolution.

Change in fashion trends of fashion trends

Now we applied 5W1H formula on the timeline to find reasons behind the way it was.

TEXT REFRENCES:
After that the whole class listed down the factors that influence the design of the selected object as per our object , then later as a whole.

REFLECTIVE WRITING -
DESIGN AS A SOCIO CULTURAL PHENOMENON
Design of any product depends upon where it came from and where it is going.
Many factors like it's shape , size, color and prize are influences by the needs that are emerging within the people . It is also co-related to the change in fashion trend.

Eg- At first, when eyeliner came into existence in 10,000 BC , they were basically used by Egyptians and the Mesopotamians not only for the sake of aesthetics but rather to protect their skins from the sun. They even believed that kohl helped to maintain hygiene.
But when we look today they are majorly used more for beauty and skincare purposes rather not for cultural purposes.
Advancement of technology had lead to the better use of eyeliner in different ways , even there are so many containers available in market that could be easily carry out with us . Not only this there has been many new techniques for making eyeliner .
For eg- During the ancient times eyeliners were made up of mixture of galena, a form of lead sulfide, and other minerals mixed with water, oil, or other soluble substances, like animal fat unlike now there are film formers added to eyeliners to give the smooth and gentle effect to the eyes.
Even after so many evolutions of eyeliner, people today give it equal importance than any other product. Today eyeliners are basically used to define and enhance the beauty of the eyes .
Trends plays the most important role in the growth of design of an product.
Like how with the change in trends so many type of eyeliners came into existence and even the way of applying the eyeliner to the eyes depends upon the trend that is going on.
EVOLUTION OF HUMANITY ( Through object ) -
During the ancient times , object was not available to most of the people and was made by them only so it was limited to production and use but now when we look, their are even available varieties as per the needs and there are industries and manufacturers and everything that a person need to make a product.

According to the need of people the product kept modifying and kept changing
according to the trends . For example , like at first there
was only liquid eyeliners were used but when we look now there are many types in eyeliners like pen , pencil,
matte, gel, glossy , or even metallic eyeliners.

Object marketing depends on how people behave in respect to the product . Like for example, eyeliner are very popular among teenagers and entertainment industry . They prefer quality and brand over anything else rather when an office going buys a product of

any kind that could be up to the mark of their need. Similarly it goes with the middle age women's. Technology advancement had helped in the modification of the product .
Much better containers were designed. Starting from liquid eyeliners, they include waxes, clays, and gums, many of which are naturally derived and then pigment of color is being added.
They were designed to lay down a thin layer on the skin, making application easier. By changing times, pencil liners came into existence, they were easy to use and apply . They are smudge proof and also dried easily.
Today everything works according to trend. Even the quantity and the quality of the product depends upon the trend that is going around the world.
In this, social media influenced life people work and motivate themselves to do things they don't need/ want.
For example, now days people started putting eyeliner trend that is started by ARIANA GRANDE (as you can see below.)
NOW THEN
Day4
FORM OBSERVATION THROUGH DRAWING
PRE WORK - we had to make similar object drawing with the same dimensions and everything.

Later from various different dimensions .

INSIGHTS -
Gel eyeliner comes in a little pot, and must be applied with a brush.

Cap is oval in shape which give better grip to hold and have smooth and comfortable surface .
Flat, angled eyeliner brushes are preferred for applying eyeliner because they have stiff bristles that are longer at one side.
These brushes are used for multipurpose, and can achieve tight lines along the lash line. The basic eyeliner brush is a straight brush with a small, sparse tip. It’s perfect for thin lines, thanks to its thin tip.

According to me, Pen eyeliners are better than gel eyeliners because they doesn't give glossy look and rather a simple look. On the flip side, pen eyeliner doesn’t leave much room for error.
As eyeliner comes in gel form they dries quickly compared to liquid eyeliner.
To maintain it's durability it's come in air tight glass bottles .
TASK 5
ERGOOMIC STUDY
Ergonomics is concerned with design of the products, systems and services so that they fit people who use them. Ergonomics applies to the design of anything that involves people – workspaces, sports and leisure, health and safety.
We had to closely examine: how the objects that you are using are held, does it has a strong grip or has a gentle grip, where are they held from, what surface areas of our hand are in contact with the object directly, what areas have a firmer grip, which fingers are used more, what areas of your palm are more in contact with the object and what is in less use.

AREAS OF PRESSURE While HOLDING THE GEL EYELINER.-
Red- high pressure area.
yellow - low pressure area.
TASK 6
Ergonomic study trough making.
MODEL MAKING- in process

FINAL OUTCOMES

TASK 6
USER OBJECT ASSOCIATION.

CARTOON

She is 23 years old She is a 14 year old kid .
She is an accountant/ model. She is a student.
Prefers online purchasing. She loves to keep up with the trends
Keeps everything organized and properly . Only uses the eyeliner on special occasions

REFLECTION 3
When a designer design a product he / she always look into how the shape of the product should be , what should be its color, size and what material would make it look much more attractive .
The colors used in an object also depends on the kinds of users who all are using it.

For example- colors like red are usually there on the products of kids in order to attract them rather when look at the much more of older generation they prefer going with the trends and not have any specific type so the material comes out in a way that different or in a way it is trendy .
for example : when we were in schools in kindergartens the size of our chairs were according to our heights and while growing up they were changing simultaneously .
also , like there's a lot of difference in the toy cars designed for children and actual cars designed for the grown up eligible.

The shape material also depends on the person it is made for.
like sarees Kurtis and many traditional outfits are made for women because they are females and they have specific type . Also like babies clothes are made up soft cottons because they don't get all rushed up in their soft little skins which could really irritate them.

Not only this the size of the object also depends on the person that are using it.
like for example , women use long handbags rather men use small wallets that could easily be tucked up in their pockets . they don't need much zips in the wallets but women needs space to put her things inside the bags . So , it is designed in the same way.
This is how form of an object is driven by the functional and emotional needs of user.
REFLECTION 4
Aesthetic is a core design principal that includes factors like balance, color, movement , pattern , scale, shape and weight.
aesthetic of an object plays a very important role while selling the object.
Nowadays , everywhere aesthetics plays the major and a very important role.
Aesthetics are the pleasing factors of any object, environment that defines it. There are many factors that influences the aesthetic of an object .

- Color plays the major and a very important role while developing the object .
the color can make the user motivated towards buying the product . But if the color doesn't look pleasing to the eyes of user it can easily go the downgrade.
- Size of the object matters equally while making the product . For example if the purses of women are now made small it wont satisfy the user or if the size of a pencil is shorten the user will not be as much satisfied with the product.

- Shape of an object also helps in making the product aesthetically pleasing .
It not only makes the product look comfortable but also pleasing.
For example if a sleeping cushion is round and long it will probably kill our backs and we wont be comfortable sleeping that way.
- Pattern of an object makes the object look perfect in every way . for example if the pattern on the shirt a bit harsh or spooky it will make user not buy the product rather if it has a sophisticated and a balanced look / patterns more users will be attracted .
REFLECTION 5
ROLE OF MATERIAL IN DESIGNING OF AN OBJECT
Choosing material in designing plays a very important role in designing. every material behaves differently with different kind of object. It depends on the structure the way it has to be use.

TASK 7
UNDERSTANDING MAKING
We made a process poster in the making of eyeliner .

TASK 8
FACTORS INFLUENCING DESIGN OF THE OBJECT
The other task today was to list out all the factors that influence the consumer and buying behavior

TASK 9
GROUP PRESENTATION
In this we were divided into group of 6 members. Using the experience gained from study on the Journey of an Object, we made presentation on "context in design" in an informative, engaging, and entertaining manner.
The focus of presentation was the close relationship between context and design".
The target audience was to explain this to a fresher of Foundation design or one of your friends who doesn't come from design background. The group members were akshaya nirvarthi , akshya dutt, somanya , harmeet and khushi ahuja .
Even though this presentation didn't turn out and had more context than learning.
but apart from that there are many things that we all learnt.
like- knowing the areas where we lacked and working all that out ,
TASK 10
PART 1
Our group was assigned with stakeholder mapping.
We made a poster in group for How did the stakeholder mapping help us to work during other activities .
Further, we made list of recommendations (things to take care of) that should be followed while doing the stakeholder mapping so that maximum benefit can be drawn from it.
basically , do/don't.
My groupmates were Harshita, Harmeet, Khushi gurdatta, Muskan singhal, yukti.

REFLECTION 6
Each and every activity that was undertaken , during the project had not only benefits but helped us to grow and learn more.
The activities we did during the project helped us or we can say had a connectivity with the coming up activities.
Activities like Slice & Dice, Stakeholder Mapping, Timeline, Observational drawing, 3d model making and Interacting with user had their own way of listing out the things .
For example - as per the stake holder mapping , has its own connections with the coming up activities or the activities that we did. Like slice and dice helped the stake holder mapping to connect with the user, timeline helped to explore users from each segregated parts and similarly with others.
- STAKE HOLDER MAPPING
Stake holder mapping helps in briefly studding the object also , we are able to get a visual representation of all the people who can influence the work/project/object . This leads to better understanding and much deeper experience. It help us to think from every people point of view. Also, it gives brief study of the object.

- SLICE AND DICE ,
this activity has helped us to be familiar with the object , not only this but to look at the product and observe it properly. Listing out every factor that has helped in having better experience of the product . It helps to understands the product in a better way.
slice and dice is basically about looking at all the attributes of the object and having a deeper look of how it made .

INTERACTING WITH USER -
Interacting with the user is can help us looking the whole thing from a different perspective. for eg- when we ask the consumer about the details of the object they have a much different point of view than us. This helps us yo know or gather more information and have a better scenario towards the object.
while interacting with the user we should keep in mind to ask the entire journey not just the parts, with should make the user feel comfortable and shouldn't pass any judgements,

Each and Every activity, not only provided us with detailed information of the object but also helped us to understand its formation and brought a new whole new perspective.
