ILLUSTRATED GLOSSARY

CULTURE: Culture is how we live as an individual and how we follow the norms. It is not always about the customs, ideas, beliefs, etc rather it is how we perceive things.

COMMUNITY: a group of people who all follow norms, religion, values, customs, or identity.

Norms: rules formed with belief that are followed by people.

Belief: things in which we have faith.

MATERIAL: are the tangible products like food, clothing, art, architecture etc.

NON-MATERIAL: are the reasons, morals, values and beliefs behind certain rituals.

TEXT: description of how and what.

SUBTEXT: moral/values/emotions

CONTEXT: background or reason.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media didn't only help me to reach out to people of my kind but also helped me to build up my confidence.

being there on social media i came to realisation of tons things like its not only about posting , sharing memes , and making friends. Rather it's also about knowing what's going around the world.

It helped me to bring back the confidence and connect to people I really cared about.

(non-material culture)

The norms, rituals and other related practices are related to non- material culture.

norms like liking pictures of friends and commenting on them is like showing a proof of being good friends . everyone believes the person who's commenting are the only true friends and if not they get offended the same.

and as per rituals we can say just like its a ritual for older people to share several good morning or meaningful text so that they try try to make social media a better place by spreading positive vibes throughout.

also while being a part of social media we try to follow several rules, like reporting fake accounts or reporting accounts who try to take advantage of social media.

unsaid beliefs and values

- Sharing memes , putting up stores & posting pictures gives you sense of popularity.

- People try to get validation in the form of likes and comments.

- Traditions are like posting pictures of every festival or event.

- They tend to follow trend in order to popular .

- unsaid beliefs like only more followers can help you being successful or people with blue ticks are celebs.

( material culture)

To connect with people all around the world has become much easier these days because of mobiles, tablets & laptops. These are the tangible objects of the social media community .

Here users are only the material components because we tend to post pictures in order to get more likes and comments.(non-material).

My insights from the project

Culture is how we live as an individual and how we follow the norms. It is not always about the customs, ideas, beliefs, etc rather it is how we perceive things. even though when we belong to same culture there are times when each and every one's perspective changes.

Even there are changes in traditions with time . people adapt according to their needs and customise things likewise.
